The Arizona Diamondbacks continue a critical four-game series at Wrigley Field against the Chicago Cubs, one of the teams ahead of them in the wild-card race. Saturday’s game begins at 11:10 a.m. and can be seen on YurView TV.

Saturday’s Diamondbacks-Cubs pitching matchup

Diamondbacks RHP Merrill Kelly (11-6, 3.22) vs. Cubs LHP Justin Steele (16-3, 2.55).

Outside of a blow up start in Los Angeles where he allowed seven runs in five innings, Kelly has been dominant over the past month-plus. He’s twice matched his career high with 12 strikeouts and has a 3.19 ERA since the start of August despite that one outing. … Kelly has experienced cramping in his right hamstring in each of his past three home starts. He has not had that issue on the road. … The silver lining with Kelly’s cramping has been that it’s come late in games, once in the seventh inning and twice in the eighth. … Kelly previously experienced cramping in 2019 as well as earlier in his career when he pitched in Korea. … Steele is among the favorites for the NL Cy Young award. … Steele came onto the scene last year with a 3.18 ERA in 24 starts in his second major league season but he has taken a leap this year, in large part by dropping his walk rate nearly in half. … Last time out, Steele struck out 12 and allowed two hits in eight scoreless.
