Beane thanks ‘all-time great’ Melvin for 11 years with A’s originally appeared on NBC Sports Bayarea

It’s official: The Athletics need a new manager.

The San Diego Padres announced Monday morning that former A’s manager Bob Melvin has agreed to terms to take the same mantle in Southern California.

With the news now being official, A’s executive vice president of baseball operations Billy Beane thanked Melvin for his 11 seasons as Oakland’s manager. Beane called Melvin an all-time great for the franchise and wished him nothing but the best going forward.

Here’s his official statement regarding Melvin’s move.

Melvin leaves the A’s as Oakland’s winningest manager. Over his 11 years in Oakland, Melvin compiled an 853-764 record in the regular season, which is good for a .528 win percentage. Under Melvin, the A’s won three AL West titles and reached the playoffs six times.
