Bote undergoes surgery on previously dislocated shoulder originally appeared on NBC Sports Chicago

After injuring it during the 2021 season, Cubs infielder David Bote recently underwent surgery on his left shoulder, team president Jed Hoyer said Tuesday at the GM Meetings.

The recovery timeline for Bote — one of three Cubs signed to a guaranteed contract for 2022, along with Kyle Hendricks and Jason Heyward — is to be determined, Hoyer said.

Bote dislocated his shoulder on a slide into second base in May. He went on the injured list and missed two months, rejoining the Cubs in late July.

The 28-year-old played in 97 games in 2021, hitting .199/.276/.330 with eight home runs. He also went on the IL in August with a sprained right ankle.

Bote will likely will be in a utility role next season with versatility to play second and third. Nick Madrigal is penciled in as the starting second baseman and Nico Hoerner will also see time there.
