Cubs hire assistant pitching coach, staff rounding into form originally appeared on NBC Sports Chicago

The Cubs continue to round out manager David Ross’ coaching staff, announcing Monday they’ve hired Daniel Moskos as assistant pitching coach.

Moskos, 35, spent the past two seasons as a minor-league pitching coach with the Yankees, including 2021 with the Double-A Somerset Patriots. He joined the Yankees organization ahead of 2020 as pitching coach for Single-A Charleston and previously worked for Driveline Baseball.

Moskos’ position is a first on the Cubs’ coaching staff, which has had some turnover within the pitching infrastructure this offseason.

The Cubs parted ways with longtime associate pitching, catching and strategy coach Mike Borzello in October, and Brad Mills — assistant director, advance scouting/run production — is no longer with the organization.

Moskos, the No. 4 overall pick in the 2007 (Pirates), made 31 appearances with Pittsburgh in 2011. He also pitched in the White Sox, Dodgers and Padres farm systems.

He briefly was with the Cubs after signing a minor-league deal in December 2016 but did not pitch for the organization.

Moskos joins hitting coach Greg Brown as new faces on the Cubs’ coaching staff. The club will also have a new assistant hitting coach in 2022 after Chris Valaika left for the top job with Cleveland.
