When: 7:40 p.m. Thursday.
Where: Target Field in Minneapolis.
TV: Bally Sports Detroit.
Radio: WXYT-FM (97.1; other radio affiliates).
Probable starting pitchers: Tigers LHP Tarik Skubal (8-12, 4.13 ERA) vs. Twins RHP Joe Ryan (2-1, 2.45 ERA).
Game notes: The Tigers end their season series vs. the Twins with Skubal, a rookie who has improved as the season has progressed. In his four abbreviated September starts, Skubal has 13 strikeouts in 13 innings while allowing four runs on nine hits and only one walk. He was good in August, too, pitching to a 3.25 ERA with 33 strikeouts over 27⅔ innings (five starts).
Ryan is making his fifth career start and, besides his rough debut, has been good. Inside of the 2.45 ERA over 22 innings is a more dominant stretch: In 17 innings (three starts) since Sept. 8, Ryan has 20 strikeouts while allowing two walks, seven hits and three earned runs. This is the final game of the season series, which the Twins have won each year since 2017. The Twins’ final games of 2021 will be in Kansas City vs. the Royals while the Tigers close out in Chicago vs. the White Sox.
