Giants, Dodgers mum on their NLDS Game 4 starting pitchers originally appeared on NBC Sports Bayarea

LOS ANGELES — Separated in the interview room by 50 minutes, Dave Roberts and Gabe Kapler showed the same commitment to secrecy.

A few minutes after Roberts said the Dodgers‘ starter for Game 4 is TBA, Kapler said the same, although like Roberts, he did admit to having a preference. Roberts said right-hander Tony Gonsolin will play a big part in Tuesday’s game and Kapler would like to have a meaty role for right-hander Anthony DeSclafani, although both managers said they had to wait and see how Game 3 played out.

“I think everything’s on the table, bullpen game included,” Kapler said.

Kapler did not want to divulge much, but he said Logan Webb and Kevin Gausman could be options to pitch in one of these two games at Dodger Stadium. Both could potentially throw their usual side sessions in a game, and Kapler said he wouldn’t be concerned about Webb potentially coming back for Game 4 on short rest.

“I do think that both Gausman and Webb have been pretty durable pitchers for us, and Webb in particular has been especially durable since he came back off the IL and has been bouncing back very well,” Kapler said. “Neither of them have been especially taxed from a pitch-count perspective. I just want to kind of stay open to any possibilities.

“The postseason is a different animal than the regular season … Yeah, I think you just try to keep everything on the table and consider all options.”

DeSclafani hasn’t appeared yet in a game this series and neither has Gonsolin, who struggled with injuries during the season. Dodgers catcher Will Smith appeared to let the cat out of the bag when he said earlier in the day that Gonsolin would start, but Roberts wants to stay flexible.

“He’s an option,” Roberts said. “I just don’t want to set that in stone right now. He’s a possibility, but that’s probably as far as I want to go with that.”
