How Braves-Rockies postponement affects NL East playoff race originally appeared on NBC Sports Philadelphia

The Phillies threw a 17-spot on the Cubs in Thursday’s win to move to three games behind the Braves in the NL East at 74-72. Atlanta was supposed to host the Colorado Rockies Thursday afternoon but the game was rained out.

The Braves and Rockies do not share a common off the day the rest of the season, which makes things a little interesting. The game likely would not be played unless it matters in determining the NL East playoff race. If it is played, it would be Monday, October 4, the day after the regular season ends.

The postponement helps the Braves in avoiding the No. 5 spot in their starting rotation in their next series in San Francisco. Ian Anderson was supposed to start Thursday but will slide back to Friday and be followed by Charlie Morton and Max Fried.

The Braves (76-68) begin an 11-game road trip on Friday. They have three in San Francisco, four in Arizona and four in San Diego with no off day during the trip. One of the games in San Diego is the resumption of a game that was suspended in Atlanta earlier in the season. The Braves are down a run in the middle innings in that one.

The Phillies’ next series is at Citi Field, their last series of the year against the Mets. They have Zack Wheeler, Aaron Nola and Kyle Gibson pitching. The Mets will start Taijuan Walker, Carlos Carrasco and lefty Rich Hill.
