Who’s Playing

Memphis @ New York

Current Records: Memphis 35-18; New York 24-27

What to Know

The New York Knicks will stay at home another game and welcome the Memphis Grizzlies at 7:30 p.m. ET Feb. 2 at Madison Square Garden. The Knicks will be strutting in after a win while Memphis will be stumbling in from a loss.

You can’t lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely New York’s strategy against the Sacramento Kings on Monday. New York was the clear victor by a 116-96 margin over Sacramento. New York’s point guard Alec Burks looked sharp as he had 21 points in addition to five boards.

Meanwhile, the Grizzlies fought the good fight in their overtime contest against the Philadelphia 76ers on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result, falling 122-119. Point guard Ja Morant (37 points) was the top scorer for Memphis. Ja Morant’s night made it seven games in a row in which he has scored at least 30 points.

The Knicks are expected to lose this next one by 3.5. Those betting on them against the spread shouldn’t have high expectations for them since the team is 5-10 ATS when expected to lose.

New York’s victory brought them up to 24-27 while the Grizzlies’ defeat pulled them down to 35-18. Two numbers to keep in mind before tip-off: New York enters the matchup with only 104.6 points allowed per game on average, good for fourth best in the league. But Memphis ranks fourth in the league when it comes to points per game, with 112.1 on average. We’ll see which of these strengths — offense or defense — will win out.
