Why the Hornets can cover

Charlotte had an offensive explosion in its last outing as it beat the Pacers 158-126. They were on fire offensively, shooting 58 percent from the field and knocking down 24 3-pointers. Charlotte had four players who scored at least 20 points in the win. They were led by guard Kelly Oubre Jr, who came off the bench and went off. He finished with a season-high 39 points and five boards. Oubre Jr. shot 10-for-15 from 3-point land. He’s questionable for this matchup (ankle).

Charlotte scored over 30 points in all four quarters, torching the Pacers’ defense. Guard LaMelo Ball logged a triple-double in the blowout win. He had 29 points, 10 rebounds, 13 assists and was very efficient. Ball shot 11-for-16 from the field and hit three 3-pointers. The Hornets also got out in transition and outscored Indiana 30-15 in fast break points.

Why the Lakers can cover

Power forward Anthony Davis returned to starting lineup in the Jan. 25 win over the Brooklyn Nets. The Kentucky product gives Los Angeles a boost on both ends of the floor. Davis is one the best defensive bigs in the NBA and his offensive skillset is top-notch. Davis is averaging 23 points, 9.7 rebounds, and 2.2 blocks per game. The eight-time All-Star selection looked fresh in their last game. Davis had 31 points, 12 rebounds and four blocks.

Guard Malik Monk has been the best 3-point shooter on the floor for Los Angeles. Monk is averaging 12.1 points and shoots a team-high 40 percent from downtown. The 2017 first-round pick has scored at least 20 points in 11 games thus far. Guard Russell Westbrook is still an all-around threat for the Lakers. Westbrook is averaging 18.6 points, 7.9 rebounds and 7.6 assists.
