The Los Angeles Angels are promoting right-handed pitcher and former Miami University RedHawks standout Sam Bachman to the big-league club from the Double-A Rocket City Trash Pandas, the team announced Thursday.
Bachman, who is expected to join the Angels’ bullpen ahead of their series against the Miami Marlins, was the ninth overall pick of the 2021 MLB Draft. Only the Reds’ Matt McLain, the 17th pick in 2021, has reached the Majors from that class.
Bachman, 23, is ranked fifth among the team’s top prospects by MLB.com. In 26 1/3 innings over six starts this season, he has a 5.81 ERA with 29 strikeouts and 20 walks. In 12 starts last season for Rocket City, he posted a 3.92 ERA with 30 strikeouts and 25 walks in 43 2/3 innings.
Bachman posted a 1.81 ERA with just one home run allowed in 59 2/3 innings over 12 starts during his final season at MU.
