The Mets have claimed RHP William Woods off waivers from the Atlanta Braves.
Woods, 23, made his big league debut with the Braves in 2022, tossing 2.0 scoreless innings over two appearances while striking out two.
He was the 25th-ranked prospect in the Braves’ farm system, per MLB Pipeline.
“The key for Woods is going to be continuing to improve his command, though it doesn’t have to be as pinpoint in a relief role,” MLB Pipeline wrote in its scouting report. “In shorter stints, a fastball that hits triple digits in shorter stints with a nasty slider could get the job done.”
In four minor league seasons with the Braves, Woods has a 4.60 ERA in 107.2 innings over 59 games (18 starts, 41 relief appearances).
And earlier this week, the Mets added some bullpen depth when they claimed hard-throwing right-hander Stephen Ridings off waivers from the Yankees.
