JD Davis finishing swing day game home whites

Here is the latest news and possible return dates for Mets players on the IL…

J.D. Davis (left hand sprain)

Davis was placed on the 10-day IL on Sept. 26, retroactive to Sept. 23, with a left hand sprain.

The 3B last played on Sept. 22 against the Boston Red Sox, going 0-for-3 at the plate with a walk and run scored. He’s batting .285 this season with five home runs and 23 RBI, but has struggled lately, hitting .208 (5-for-24) with one RBI over his last 15 games.

Potential Return Date: Late-September/ Early-October

Noah Syndergaard (TJS recovery)

Syndergaard struck out two and allowed a hit in his lone inning with Triple-A Syracuse on Sept. 25. Luis Rojas said Syndergaard’s line was “very encouraging to hear” but the Mets have not yet discussed the next steps for the right-hander.

After a positive COVID-19 diagnosis caused Syndergaard to pause his rehab, the right-hander was finally back on the mound for the Syracuse Mets on Sept. 22.

Syndergaard threw 12 pitches, 10 of them for strikes, and sat in the 93-94 range.

The Mets had previously said that Syndergaard would likely make two rehab starts – this was his second.

The expectation remains that Syndergaard will return in a bullpen role before the end of the season.

Potential Return Date: Late-September

Jacob deGrom (elbow inflammation)

Rojas said deGrom threw a 25-pitch side session on Sept. 24, and the right-hander “felt good” afterwards.

Per Rojas, the Mets have not yet had talks about what could come next for the two-time Cy Young winner.

DeGrom threw 20 pitches off the mound at Fenway Park in Boston on Sept. 21.

Asked if he still expects to return before the end of the regular season, which is on Oct. 3, deGrom said yes.

“If everything keeps going well,” he said. “I feel good.”

DeGrom has not pitched since July 7 due to an elbow injury.

On Sept. 9, after Mets president Sandy Alderson said deGrom had been dealing with a slight UCL tear that resolved itself, deGrom said his UCL was “perfectly fine.”

“I know what was said, but my ligament is perfectly fine,” he said. “I’ve been throwing. I wouldn’t be throwing if I had a compromised ligament. So that’s the plan to continue to throw and build up.”

Potential return date: Late-September

Robert Gsellman (lat)

Gsellman tossed an inning for Triple-A Syracuse on Saturday, and allowed two runs on three hits. In his last appearance for Low-A St. Lucie, he allowed three earned runs and three hits while striking out one over 0.2 innings.

The right-hander has been on the 60-day IL since June 23 with a lat issue, but could be back in the bullpen later this year to finish the regular season.

Gsellman last pitched on June 19 against the Washington Nationals, when he allowed one run on three hits in 2.0 innings while serving as the opener.

Potential return date: Late September

Drew Smith (right shoulder inflammation)

The Mets announced on Aug. 14 that Smith was on the 10-day injured list with right shoulder inflammation.

The 27-year-old Smith, who last pitched on Aug. 13, has appeared in 31 games for the Mets this season, pitching to a 2.40 ERA with 41 strikeouts in 41.1 innings.

Potential return date: TBD

Joey Lucchesi (Tommy John surgery), Dellin Betances (shoulder surgery), and David Peterson (oblique/foot) are out for the season
