The Mets have signed two starting outfielders in recent days, and they could also sign one of their longest-tenured outfielders to an extension.

According to SNY’s Andy Martino, the Mets are interested in talking about a contract extension with Brandon Nimmo.

Per Martino, the Mets having dialogue with Nimmo could happen after the expected MLB lockout.

Nimmo, 28, is entering his final year of arbitration and is set to become a free agent after the 2022 season.

He is projected to earn $6 million in 2022.

With the additions of Starling Marte (who signed a four-year deal and will play center field) and Mark Canha (who signed a two-year deal with a third-year club option), Nimmo will be in one of the corner outfield spots for the Mets in 2022.

Nimmo had a strong season in 2021, slashing .292/.401/.437 in 92 games as he was limited by a hand injury earlier in the season and a hamstring injury near the end.

Since 2018, Nimmo has been one of the most productive outfielders in baseball, hitting .267/.398/.457 with a 136 OPS+ in 356 games.
