Mets outfielder Starling Marte underwent surgery on Tuesday in Philadelphia to repair a core muscle injury he sustained during the second half of the 2022 season, the team announced.
A typical recovery timeline is eight weeks, and Marte is expected to be without restriction in spring training.
Marte missed the final month of the regular season after suffering a fractured finger when he was hit by a pitch thrown by Mitch Keller of the Pittsburgh Pirates on Sept. 6.
Marte returned for the Wild Card Series against the San Diego Padres.
In his first season as a Met after signing a four-year deal, Marte slashed .292/.347/.468 with 16 homers, 24 doubles, five triples, and 18 stolen bases in 505 plate appearances over 118 games.
If the Mets don’t re-sign Brandon Nimmo, there’s a chance that Marte — who played right field last season — will slide back to center.
