Jeff McNeil swings at home vs. Phillies

Jeff McNeil‘s seventh inning solo shot proved to be the difference in the Mets‘ 3-2 win over the Phillies Sunday night.

Here’s a few takeaways from the game:

1. The Phillies jumped out to an early, first inning lead when Bryce Harper‘s two-out walk was followed by a J.T. Realmuto double to deep center that was enough to get Harper in for the score.

2. A quiet game ensued from there up until the top of the fifth, when the Phillies added to their lead. After Freddy Galvis reached on an infield single and Jean Segura hit a ground rule double to deep right, Harper hit a sac fly out to center to bring in Galvis from third to make it 2-0.

3. That second run was enough to knock Rich Hill out of the game. The starter finished his night after 4.2 innings of six hit, two earned run ball to go with one walk and seven strikeouts.

4. The Mets offense finally woke up in the bottom of the fifth. Three straight hits to start off the inning — a Jeff McNeil single, Tomas Nido double and pinch hit Dom Smith two-RBI double — tied the game up at 2-2 just like that.

5. Later on in the bottom of the fifth, McNeil scored his second run of the night — this time on a solo shot out to right that gave the Mets their first lead of the game.

The Mets managed to hold on and grab the 3-2 win over the Phillies to halt the losing streak at three.

What’s next?

The Mets are off on Monday and begin a two-game set with the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park on Tuesday at 7:10 p.m. on SNY.

Marcus Stroman will get the start for the Mets, and go up against Eduardo Rodriguez for the Sox.
