As the Mets look to reshape their roster heading into the 2022 season, free agent Kris Bryant is among the players the team is expected to discuss with agent Scott Boras at the GM Meetings, reports Mike Puma of The New York Post.

That the Mets plan to speak with Boras about Bryant should come as no surprise after New York targeted Bryant at the trade deadline in July.

And Bryant could be among the best fits for the Mets this offseason for a number of reasons.

Perhaps the most important reason is that Bryant, who was traded to the San Francisco Giants midseason, is not attached to a qualifying offer.

That means the Mets can sign him without losing their second overall selection in the 2022 MLB Draft, which is No. 14.

Along with Bryant, Starling Marte and Jon Gray are some of the other potential high-impact external free agents who are not attached to the QO.

The list of free agents who are attached to the QO is lengthy, and includes Carlos Correa, Nick Castellanos, Marcus Semien, Justin Verlander, Robbie Ray, Trevor Story, Corey Seager, and Raisel Iglesias.

Aside from the fact that Bryant is not attached to the QO is the fact that he is incredibly versatile.

Bryant got time at third base, first base, and all three outfield positions in 2021, and even played a few innings at shortstop.

For the Mets, who are in danger of losing Michael Conforto (who will reject the QO), Bryant could be an option at one of the corner outfield spots.

Bryant could also be the Mets’ answer at third base and fill in at first base when needed.

The 29-year-old Bryant slashed .265/.353/.481 with 25 homers and 32 doubles in 144 games last season between the Giants and Chicago Cubs.
