Tylor Megill provided the Mets with such a spark to their starting rotation when he was first called up, filling in better than many expected at a time when the Mets had issues up and down their pitching staff.

But of late, he’s been victimized by the home run ball, and Friday’s loss in Milwaukee was no exception, as he allowed three more homers in the Brewers’ 5-1 win.

Overall, Megill has allowed 12 long balls in his last six starts.

“Probably in the zone, middle of the zone mistakes, and they make me pay for it,” Megill said afterwards. “Definitely not getting away with much when it’s in the zone, especially the long ball is what’s getting me.”

“Like I’ve said, he’s a guy that attacks in zone, hasn’t been a guy who shies away from the zone, and I think from repetitions, good-hitting teams, good batters are going to track him down,” added manager Luis Rojas. “They’re going to find pitches that they can drive.

“Teams are watching him pitch and getting to know him a little bit. That’s what the league does. They will adjust to you.”

In 17 starts, Megill has pitched to a 4.78 ERA, and while his season may not be ending the way that he had hoped, he believes his first taste of big league action has been an overall success.

“I’ve had a good amount of success, and I’ve hit recently a good amount of bad,” Megill said. “I wouldn’t say terrible, but just bumps in the road where I’m having outings where I’m giving up the long ball consistently.”
