Washington Nationals general manager president baseball operations Mike Rizzo speaks to media

Perhaps no one in the game knows Mets general manager candidate Adam Cromie better than Washington Nationals president and general manager Mike Rizzo, who worked with Cromie from 2007 until 2017.

Rizzo spoke to SNY on Wednesday afternoon at the GM Meetings in Carlsbad, Calif, explaining what Cromie brought to the Nats’ front office.

“He’s an intelligent person and he attacked every responsibility that we gave him,” Rizzo said. “I think intelligence, loyalty, and just a good guy with good people skills.”

Cromie worked in a variety of roles for the Nats, including player development, analytics, and baseball operations before being promoted to director of baseball ops in 2010 and then to vice president and assistant GM in 2014.

Cromie left the game in 2017 to begin working for the law firm Jones Day, where he is still employed.

SNY MLB Insider Andy Martino reported on Tuesday that Cromie is a serious GM candidate for the Mets, and while the team is still considering a few others, Cromie has clearly impressed during the interview process.
