With the days of the “floor manager” long behind us, point guards have become arguably the most explosive scorers on the court in the modern NBA, which is why so many are high up in CBS Sports’ NBA Top 100 player rankings. Four of the league’s top-10 scorers last season (perhaps five, depending on how you designate Zach LaVine) were point guards, including league-leader Stephen Curry.

The nature of that scoring has also changed, as pull-up 3-point shots that were once considered irrational chemistry-killers are now encouraged, and a necessary tool in any point guard’s arsenal. Case in point, the NBA‘s top four leaders in pull-up 3-pointers per game last season were all point guards — Damian Lillard, Curry, James Harden and Luka Doncic. But that doesn’t mean lead guards have evolved into ball hogs who couldn’t care less about their teammates — seven of the top-10 assist leaders were also point guards, including Russell Westbrook, who led the NBA with nearly 12 per game.

Therefore, ranking NBA point guards has become an extremely difficult task, particularly when you consider whether to include players like LeBron James and Nikola Jokic, who are generally classified as a forward and center, respectively, but who both operate as de facto lead guards on the floor.

Coming off one of the best offensive seasons in NBA history, Curry takes the top spot on our list of the league’s best point guards, followed closely by 22-year-old wunderkind Luka Doncic, who may not be far away from dethroning Curry if he continues on his current trajectory.

Here are the league’s top 15 point guards for the 2021-22 season.
