Patrick Kane had interest in joining Rangers, is less than thrilled about Vladimir Tarasenko trade
Chicago Blackhawks forward Patrick Kane still hasn’t decided whether he’ll grant a trade before the deadline, but he was still less than thrilled when he found out the Rangers had dealt for Vladimir Tarasenko.
By acquiring Tarasenko, the Blueshirts filled their main need (a scorer who can fit on their top line), while almost certainly shutting the door on a potential trade for Kane.
“It’s not like the happiest I’ve been to hear about a trade,” Kane told reporters, including Charlie Roumeliotis of NBC Sports Chicago, on Friday. “I think the Rangers are a team that you definitely pay attention to and definitely are intrigued by, for obvious reasons.”
Because he has a full no-trade clause, Kane would’ve had to sign off on any deal. And the Rangers — who had expressed interest in him — were seemingly on the list of teams the 34-year-old was willing to go to.
“If things were going to happen, that was a team I was definitely looking at,” he said. “It seems like they kind of filled their void and went ahead and made a deal, so it is what it is.”
Kane’s agent said earlier this week that interested teams “would be given at least seven to 10 days advance word” if Kane decides he is open to a trade.
Obviously you want to do right by the franchise, and the organization here has been amazing to me and given me so much,” Kane explained. “So you definitely want what’s best for both sides.”
Kane is in the last year of his contract and basically playing out the string with Chicago. The Blackhawks have 35 points and are 23 points out of a playoff spot entering play on Friday.
He is set to be an unrestricted free agent after the season.
