White Sox’ Dallas Keuchel wins fifth Gold Glove originally appeared on NBC Sports Chicago

White Sox pitcher Dallas Keuchel, the team’s lone Gold Glove finalist, has won the award for the fifth time in his career.

ESPN’s Rawlings Gold Glove Award show revealed the winners Sunday evening. Keuchel beat out the Blue Jays’ José Berríos and Astros’ Zack Greinke, fellow American League pitcher finalists, for the honor. Among active pitchers, only Greinke (6) has more Gold Gloves than Keuchel.

The southpaw is the fourth White Sox pitcher to earn a Gold Glove in franchise history. Keuchel won his first four Gold Gloves with the Astros.

Keuchel’s defense remained consistently sharp this season, even as he struggled on the mound. He recorded one error this year (.980 fielding percentage), his first since 2017. Keuchel led MLB pitchers in assists (41) and range factor per nine innings (2.67). He set a career high with 12 defensive runs saved, the most by a pitcher in nine years

Keuchel’s ERA, however, ballooned to 5.28, a career worst. The White Sox left him off the playoff roster.

Keuchel’s Gold Glove victory extends the White Sox’ streak to three straight years with a winner, including second baseman Yolmer Sánchez (2019) and center fielder Luis Robert (2020).
