Aaron Boone said pregame that there isn’t a hard pitch count set for Kluber, but “we’ll see where we’re at in the game” with him.
Kluber hasn’t pitched for the Yankees since May 25 due to a shoulder injury.
Now that he’s returning to the rotation, Andrew Heaney, who the Yankees acquired at the trade deadline, looks to be the odd man out and will start coming out of the bullpen.
In addition to the Kluber move, the Yankees announced that Zack Britton is being transferred to the 60-day IL, which should all but end his season.
Britton’s last outing for the Yankees was Aug. 19, when he came in to pitch in relief for an inning during a win over the Minnesota Twins.
The lefty is dealing with a sprained left elbow injury that could potentially need surgery, Boone noted last week.
Boone also said that Britton was meeting with a doctor in Los Angeles, and that they’d have a better understanding on a next possibly later Monday night.
