The Knicks finish the preseason on Friday against the Washington Wizards.

Here are a few questions that remain as they wrap up their exhibition schedule…

Robinson practiced on Thursday and is trending toward playing on Friday against Washington. He had been sidelined for most of training camp and the preseason due to injury. Robinson fractured his foot in the middle of last season and he was still rehabbing the injury at the start of camp.

The Knicks are taking a cautious approach with Robinson. So even if he plays on Friday, you may not see him in the lineup on Wednesday when New York opens the regular season. However, Tom Thibodeau has been effusive in his praise of Robinson.

Here’s how Thibodeau described the Knicks’ approach to Robinson’s rehab:

“He was here for most of the summer. When he did go home, we sent a trainer with him, we sent a coach with him. We sent basically three people (with him). Because he’s that important. And all our players are. I think going through a rehab like he’s going through, I think it’s important for us to be heavily involved. And he’s responded.

“It’s not easy to go through a long rehab. That was the one thing that Derrick did before, for three consecutive years. So I know the challenges that go along with that. There’s a physical challenge, there’s also a mental challenge. You’re away from your teammates, that’s not an easy thing to do. So we wanted to make sure he got through that.

“And the staff we have, Aaron Brooks was with him a lot, Kenny Payne has been with him. The whole staff was involved with him. And he’s really grown. Not only the physical part, but who he is; he’s much more confident. I think he has a great understanding now of the league, what goes into it. So we’re anxious to get him back out there.”

Robinson is entering the final year of his rookie contract. He will be an unrestricted free agent this summer. The Knicks can offer Robinson an extension during the season, but they are expected to take a wait-and-see approach on that front.

New York re-signed Nerlens Noel to a $32 million contract in the offseason. So it will be interesting to see how the club approaches Robinson’s future.

ROSTER BATTLE?

The Knicks have room for one more guaranteed contract on the roster. They also have an open two-way spot.

Wayne Selden, Aamir Simms, Brandon Goodwin, and MJ Walker are competing for the two open spots. It’s possible that the Knicks leave at least one of the spots open at the start of the regular season.

MORE THREES?

The Knicks ranked in the top 5 in 3-point field goal percentage last season. But they were in the bottom third in attempts per 100 possessions. Coming into the preseason, they wanted to increase their 3-point attempts. So far, they’ve accomplished that goal. They enter play Friday ranked sixth in the NBA in 3-point attempts per 100 possessions.

They’re also third in 3-point field goal percentage.
