Joel Embiid dribbles with ball in navy 76ers jersey

The Knicks will take on the Philadelphia 76ers on Monday night, but All-Star center Joel Embiid has entered COVID-19 health and safety protocols and will not play, Shams Charania of The Athletic reported.

Charania had reported earlier that with a back-to-back ahead for Philadelphia, they had been planning to sit Embiid.

Embiid is always a problem for any defense to deal with as he has the ability to score from anywhere on the floor.

With the 76ers without Ben Simmons so far this season, Embiid has been averaging 21.4 points per game, shooting 43.5 percent from the field and 39.4 percent from three.

Embiid is also a rebounding machine, hauling in 9.4 per game this season. On the defensive end, his 1.4 blocks make him a formidable rim presence, too.

The Knicks did a good job in their win over the Sixers back on Oct. 26, holding Embiid to 14 points, six boards, and three assists, as he went 2-of-7 from the field. Most of his points came at the free-throw line, where he went 10-of-11.

With Embiid out, Andre Drummond, another rebound machine, will likely get the start. Mitchell Robinson, if he plays, have to deal with that, but it will definitely be an easier experience down low compared to Embiid being in.

Coming off a tough loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers on Sunday, New York will hope their own back-to-back ends with a win on the road.

ROBINSON AND NOEL QUESTIONABLE

Robinson (hip flexor) and Nerlens Noel (sore lower back) are both listed as questionable for Monday’s game.

If Robinson and/or Noel miss the game, the Knicks will have the option of relying more on Taj Gibson and Jericho Sims or going with a smaller lineup.
