Iguodala has ‘common sense’ about Kellerman’s famous quote originally appeared on NBC Sports Bayarea

Max Kellerman wants Andre Iguodala to take the final shot of close NBA games, but the Warriors forward knows that’s not necessarily the best option.

During an appearance on The Breakfast Club last week, Iguodala was asked about the ESPN TV personality saying “I want Iguodala” on “First Take” in 2019, a day after the Warriors star hit the game-sealing shot in Game 2 of the NBA Finals against the Raptors.

Charlamagne tha God: “Max Kellerman said you should be the guy to take the last shot.”

Iguodala: “Max is my guy. Good people.”

CTG: “Is that cuz y’all are friends or he really believe that?”

AI: “I don’t know. I didn’t know him prior to that.”

CTG: “Were you shocked when you heard him say that?”

AI: “Nah, if you understand how the whole system works, you ain’t surprised if you hear anything. I’ve had some success making some important shots, like I’m not known as a shooter, but when I had to make the shot, I made the shot.”

DJ Envy: “You take that shot over Steph?”

AI: “I mean, if I’m the coach, I’m going to Steph. You know, that’s common sense. I got that. I got common sense, so yeah, I’m going with Steph just because of his body of work, like the dude different. But I understand I’ve had great moments because Steph is so good. He getting all the attention and they leaving me open, I made an open shot and he just made the right play.”

Iguodala is fully aware that Curry is the greatest shooter in the history of the NBA. He surely knows who should be taking the final shot when the opportunity presents itself.

But Iguodala also is smart enough to know that defenses are trained to attack and swarm Curry in order to force the ball out of his hands, meaning everyone else on the court has to be ready to take the final shot if Curry isn’t able to launch it himself.

Iguodala played along with Kellerman’s bit, even shouting out the longtime “First Take” host when his run on the show came to an end recently, but the 2015 NBA Finals MVP knows everyone wants Curry taking the final shot.
