Boston Celtics co-governer Steve Pagliuca joined a number of other Celtics front office denizens on the airwaves of WEEI yesterday in support of the Jimmy Fund telethon against cancer and spoke a bit about the Celtics coming 2021-22 season and the significant changes made to the team in recent weeks.

The ascent of Boston’s twin All-Star forwards in particular, and how they will mesh with the new additions to the roster and coaching staff were brought up, with Pagliuca sounding very excited by what the Celtics have done to focus their future around these two star talents. “They’re definitely both leaders on the team,” he explained.

“They’re really great players.”

“Players really start to come into the maturation process at 26, 27, 28 — so they are getting there.”

“[Jaylen and Jayson] have played great so far, and they still have great upsides — we’re very excited with that core, [and] Marcus Smart … We’ve added a lot of depth this year with [Dennis] Schroeder coming in, so it’s going to be a very deep, competitive team with a lot of defensive intensity, and Ime [Udoka] has been an incredible defensive coach.”

“He’ll bring even more intensity to that, so we’re really excited about the new season — really excited.” https://twitter.com/TheCelticsWire/status/1430575748188983299?s=20

While there are some very different perspectives being taken from what Boston has been up to this offseason, we tend to side with those who view things as Pagliuca does. A commitment to building around the Jays with aggressive moves to release the team from the yoke of past mistakes is pretty hard not to get excited to see the fruits of on the court come opening night.
