The Boston Celtics selected Jordan Walsh from the University of Arkansas with the No. 38 pick in the 2023 NBA Draft Thursday night. This came after Boston made several moves to trade back in the draft and pick up some draft capital along the way.
Walsh is a lengthy wing who could play in the front court as well. At 6’7″ with a 7’2″ wingspan and a high motor, he is a sold defender. His foot work and his athleticism made him one of the stronger individual defensive players playing at the college level last year. On offense, he passes the ball well and would be an interesting piece in head coach Joe Mazzulla’s spread offense.
At the time of this writing, Boston is a little thin on the wing. Perhaps Walsh could help this problem. It’s also possible Walsh spends time with the Maine Celtics, Boston’s G-League team.
