CJ McCollum praises the addition of Larry Nance Jr. originally appeared on NBC Sports Northwest

On the 120th edition of the Pull Up Podcast with Trail Blazers shooting guard CJ McCollum, the guard is joined by a special guest, six-time NBA All-Star and Raptors legend Kyle Lowry.

The two discuss how Lowry’s grown his game over the years, winning the championship in Toronto, his move to the Heat and much more.

But before McCollum and Lowry dive into all things NBA and beyond, McCollum addressed the Blazers’ latest trade.

McCollum wished his teammate Derrick Jones Jr. well.

After spending just one season in Portland after signing a two-year, $18.9 million contract with the team a year ago, the Blazers dealt Derrick Jones Jr. and a lottery-protected 2022 first-round pick to Chicago.

“Shout-out to my guy Derrick Jones Jr. Had a great year with you. I’m sure we’ll be friends for the foreseeable future,” McCollum said. “Hopefully DJ is going to a situation where he’ll be able to play, show his game, and be able to continue to evolve based on what he’s been able to accomplish up to this point.”

With DJJ traded, Portland acquired power forward Larry Nance Jr. in the three-team trade.

Nance Jr. will add frontcourt depth to the Blazers. And there’s no doubt that Portland will utilize his versatility.

McCollum had plenty to say about the Nance Jr. addition.

“A guy who can do a little bit of everything. He’s smart, he can play the pick and roll. He can also defend the rim, he can defend on the perimeter, he can shoot — I think he shot at least 36 percent from three the last few seasons. He’s obviously a guy that can finish around the basket.”

I’m looking forward to seeing how he can continue to help us to take that next step. He’s definitely a value add. He’s definitely a guy that understands how to play the game — knows what needs to be done in order to win.

Nance Jr. spent the last three and a half seasons with the Cavaliers averaging 9.3 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 3.1 assists over 35 games a season ago. He missed part of last season due to a fractured thumb.
