Damian Lillard among favorites to win MVP, scoring champion by oddsmakers originally appeared on NBC Sports Northwest
PointsBet, the official sports betting partner of NBC Sports, ranks Lillard as the 8th-most likely player to win MVP at +1600, trailing Luka Doncic (+400), Kevin Durant (+700), Giannis Antetokoumpo (+800), Stephen Curry (+800), Joel Embiid (+1000), LeBron James (+1000) and Nikola Jokic (+1400).
Last season with his name in the thick of the MVP race, Lillard told Jason Quick of The Athletic that he believed he should be in the conversation.
“I see myself at the top of the league,” Lillard told The Athletic in mid-Feb. “I’m one of the best players in this league, and I feel like I’m on that level. And the way our team is playing given our circumstances makes it even more obvious to me.”
Lillard has finished inside the top-10 of MVP voting five times: 8th (2015-16), 4th (2017-18), 6th (2018-19), 8th (2019-20), and 7th (2020-21).
Dame finished the 2020-21 season averaging 28.8 points, 7.5 assists, and 4.2 rebounds with Portland ending the year at 42-30.
PointsBet also has Lillard as the second-most-likey player to lead the NBA in three-pointers made at +400, trailing just Stephen Curry who is given -200 odds. Lillard made a career-high 275 three-pointers last season in just 72 games, over an 82-game pace that would have been 313 three-pointers made.
Curry has made more than 313 three-pointers in a season four times (2015-16, 2016-17, 2018-19, 2020-21).
Lillard’s also given the fourth-best odds to win the scoring title at +700, trailing Bradley Beal (+300), Stephen Curry (+350) and Luka Doncic (+400).
