Dame needed Draymond’s advice on popping champagne bottles originally appeared on NBC Sports Bayarea
Here’s a piece of advice. If you don’t know what you’re doing, ask someone who does.
Following Team USA’s gold medal victory in the 2021 Tokyo Olympics this summer, Portland Trailblazer’s star Damian Lillard got to pop champagne bottles for the first time in his career, and he needed a little bit of help.
“This is, like, what it looks like when you haven’t won a championship,” Lillard told Esquire magazine. “I haven’t won yet and Draymond has won three championships, so after we won the gold medal, everyone is popping champagne and spraying champagne everywhere, I don’t have much experience at that, so I needed the champ(Green) to assist me.” (h/t Warriors Talk)
The NBA celebrates differently than, say, a sport like baseball. In MLB, teams celebrate with champagne after clinching a postseason berth, and every round they advance from there on out. In basketball, teams only celebrate with champagne after winning an NBA title.
Hence why Draymond is an expert on the subject.
You would think that Lillard, who has consistently been one of the league’s best players on one of the consistently good teams in the NBA would have experienced such a celebration by now.
Nevertheless, Draymond and the Warriors are here to teach other players how to celebrate accordingly.
