Damian Lillard Knicks

Damian Lillard Knicks

Potential Knicks target Damian Lillard remains a member of the Portland Trail Blazers, but his latest comments on a possible trade have the NBA world’s attention Wednesday.

During a live broadcast on Instagram, he reread one of the questions from a user in the comment section and answered with this.

“‘Dame, are you leaving PDX (Portland)?'” Lillard said. “I’m not leaving PDX (Portland) — right now, at least.”

In an article published Wednesday by The Athletic, Lillard opened up on his trade-talk-fueled offseason.

“You get to a position where it’s like, ‘Do I defend myself or do I just say nothing.’ For me, when I’m just hearing stuff that’s not the facts, I’m going to say I didn’t say that,” he said. “Some things I’ve just got to let it be said. I know what the truth is. I know where I stand. It’s not my duty to make the public know … it’s not my job to make them aware of what that is. It definitely has been different. I feel like I’ve handled it like I’ve handled everything. I just let it happen. I let people talk and I just stay true to who I am and I stand on that. If I say something, I stand on what I said. It is what it is, at this point.”

As a ninth-year pro in 2020-21, Lillard scored 28.8 points per game — just shy of his single-season career-high 30 from the previous year — but the sixth-seeded Trail Blazers suffered a six-game loss to the Denver Nuggets in the Western Conference’s first round. Lillard, 31, is a six-time All-Star point guard through nine NBA seasons — all with Portland. Starting all 682 regular-season games he has logged from 2012-21, Lillard’s career averages include 24.7 points and 6.6 assists in 36.3 minutes.
