Game notes: The Pistons, now with 23 games remaining, return from a one-week absence during the NBA All-Star break and face off against a fellow rebuilding squad to tip off the season’s final third. The Magic are 19-15 since a 5-20 start to the season, and have a plethora of recent top-10 draft picks leading the way. It starts with heavy Rookie of the Year favorite Paolo Banchero, one of three 6-foot-10 frontcourt starters. The Magic also employ Michigan brothers Franz and Moritz Wagner. It’s a good test for the Pistons’ Jalen Duren, Isaiah Stewart and newcomer James Wiseman, in his second game. The Pistons won the season’s first two matchups in Detroit, but we’ll see if there’s any bad blood remaining after the Dec. 28 Killian Hayes-Moritz Wagner bench-clearing altercation led to suspensions. They’ll meet again in Orlando on April 2.
