NOT RATTLED ON THE ROAD: Cade Cunningham‘s poise stood out in Pistons’ win over Rockets

ABOUT LAST GAME: Jerami Grant‘s monster 3rd quarter launches Pistons over Rockets

Game notes: The Pistons will try for their first winning streak of the season. Jerami Grant scored 35 points while Cade Cunningham, the No. 1 pick in the 2021 draft, had 20 points and four made 3-pointers Wednesday in Houston. The Cavaliers took a home loss Wednesday, 97-94, to the first-place Washington Wizards. Like the Wizards, the Cavs have been a surprise in the young NBA season, knocking off several suspected playoff contenders including the New York Knicks, Portland Trail Blazers and Denver Nuggets.

It’s a well-balanced attack that carries the Cavs, with six players averaging 12 or more points a game, led by guards Collin Sexton (16.0 points per game) and Darius Garland (15.8 points per game, 7.2 assists per game). Sexton won’t be playing Friday, or anytime soon, after suffering a meniscus tear Sunday. Evan Mobley, the No. 3 pick in the 2021 draft, leads the team in minutes (33.6 per game) has put up strong scoring (15.3), rebounding (7.9) and assists (2.5) numbers for a rookie big. Cleveland is an above-average team in rebounding and points allowed and a top-five defense in 3-pointers allowed per game. Mix that with the Pistons’ league-low 10.5 made 3s a game and you have the makings of a defensive duel in Cleveland.
