The Philadelphia 76ers got a bit of a boost in Thursday’s home win over the Los Angeles Lakers as Danny Green made his return to the floor. The veteran missed seven games in a row after suffering hip pain in a loss to the Charlotte Hornets on Jan. 12 as it continued his weird season.

Green has been in and out of the lineup with lingering issues such as his hamstring, his calf, and now his hip. He also had COVID earlier in the season and he did express some frustration with how things have gone during the season.

He hopped off the bench on Thursday and provided a lift with nine points while knocking down three triples in his 15:33 of playing time. He was also a plus-15 in those minutes as he made an impact knocking down shots and taking on the challenge of defending Lakers star Russell Westbrook.

“He was good tonight (Thursday),” said coach Doc Rivers. “He made some shots for us. When Danny plays, he’s really clever. I thought the way he was guarding Westbrook, of the guys, he’s the best actually on Westbrook because he plays with his brain, he’s so smart.”

Green’s impact on the Sixers cannot be overstated. He is an important piece to this group as a shooter, a defender, and a guy who calms the team down when the time calls for it. Philadelphia will need him healthy as the season goes on and into the playoffs in April and May.
