While on its surface, the controversy around star Memphis Grizzlies point guard Ja Morant seems fairly straightforward, there are aspects that deserve a second look.

Golden State Warriors veteran wing Andre Iguodala and former Boston Celtics player and assistant coach Evan Turner shared their thoughts on the situation on their “Point Forward” podcast.

The pair discussed the challenges and struggles pro athletes face over the course of their careers, highlighting the importance of understanding the background and experiences of African-American athletes in particular.

Iguodala and Turner also touch on the erasure of African-American history and leaders on the pod more generally and talk about the impact this incident may have on Morant’s legacy.
