Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra commended rookie Micah Potter for his physicality and ability to rebound on Thursday after a loss to the Atlanta Hawks.

Potter recorded 16 points, 16 rebounds and one assist in 29 minutes of work off of the bench, his second double-double effort of the preseason. He converted on 6-of-14 shot attempts from the field, including 2-of-6 from 3-point range.

His first double-double came on Oct. 8 with 13 points and 17 rebounds in a win over the San Antonio Spurs. He now leads the rookie class in double-doubles and rebounding during the preseason, two areas that have impressed the Heat.

Spoelstra said Potter has shown some upside so far in the preseason.

He rebounds well. He does have a knack for the ball. He plays with a level of physicality that, when he becomes more technical and understands our defensive system more, I think that’ll be an even better strength. Offensively, he does stretch the floor. He is good on dribble handoffs. Things we do in our system, he has shown some upside there.

Potter signed an Exhibit 10 contract with the Heat and will spend the upcoming season in the NBA G League with the Sioux Falls Skyforce. The Heat have had tremendous success with their developmental efforts in Sioux Falls and Potter could be the next in line to benefit.

With a season in the G League, Potter can fine-tune some aspects of his game and continue to learn the Heat’s system. He has certainly shown some good things during his run in the preseason, something the Heat have to be excited about.

Miami wraps up the preseason on Friday versus the Boston Celtics.
