Brooklyn Nets guard Kyrie Irving did not have a particularly good game in the first three quarters of the Nets’ game against the New York Knicks. Through the first three periods, Irving was 4-of-12 from the field as the Knicks made sure to send a second player towards Irving whenever he touched the ball.

Things changed in the fourth quarter of Saturday’s 122-115 win over New York as Irving scored 21 points of 8-of-15 shooting from the field. He was able to get to wherever he wanted to get to on the floor and he was able to hit some threes in the final period as well.

However, Irving recognized that what made Saturday’s win impressive was that everybody else on the team played well. Four other Nets scored at least 10 points and every player who touched the floor for Brooklyn scored at least five points, which went a long way toward the team’s dominating first half. Irving spoke after the game about how much he loves it when everybody on the team plays well:

“I felt like we had control most of the game, offensively and defensively. Just had some good looks in transition and just wanted to make them (the Knicks) play on their heels a little bit. In the second half, Jalen Brunson came out very aggressive in that third quarter. So, it paced them a little bit. But, once we got in that fourth quarter, we started out on like a 6-0 run or 8-0 run. I knew we had some good momentum. We just had to keep it up. So, I was just doing the little things, just trying to pace us, make some timely shots, a few in and outs that I felt were supposed to go down, but they didn’t. But, we got stops, timely stops and kept them off the free throw line a little bit in that fourth quarter and made it tough in the half court.”
