PHOENIX — Devin Booker led the Phoenix Suns to a 105-98 victory at home over the Luka Doncic-less Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday, marking the Suns’ 10th straight win and longest winning streak since 2010.

Booker scored 24 points and had nine rebounds in a closely contested game that went down to the wire and featured 19 lead changes. Deandre Ayton had 19 points and 13 rebounds, marking his 100th career double-double.

Despite Chris Paul‘s dismal 2-for-12 shooting performance, he had two clutch assists to Ayton and Booker in the final two minutes that secured the Suns’ victory. Paul finished with 14 assists and seven points.

“It’s not easy to win against the best in the West,” Mavs coach Jason Kidd said after the loss. “It took it down to the last two minutes. Unfortunately, we missed shots and they made shots. And that’s how this league goes.”

The Mavericks were without Doncic, who was ruled out ahead of Wednesday’s matchup after he injured his left ankle and left knee during the Mavs’ win over the Denver Nuggets on Monday. But Kidd said he hopes his guys gained “confidence they can compete at the highest level” in Doncic’s absence.

“if Luka is in, we don’t know where we are in position of that game,” Kidd said. “The guys who played, played their hearts out… It’s a great lesson because Luka can be in foul trouble or Luka isn’t playing due to an injury.”

Without their best player, the Mavs nearly won the game. Tim Hardaway Jr. led the Mavs with 22 points, Kristaps Porzingis scored 21 points and Jalen Brunson added 18 points

The Suns improve to 11-3 with the victory, while the Mavs fall to 9-5. The Suns and Mavs face off again at Phoenix’s Footprint Center on Friday.
