As the Philadelphia 76ers continue to prepare for what they hope will be a deep run into the playoffs, there are rumblings in the coaching circles that Doc Rivers could leave the Sixers to be the head man for the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Lakers are in the midst of a really tough season despite the immense talent on their roster and it is widely assumed that they will move on from Frank Vogel once the season does conclude.

Per Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report:

Doc Rivers, the Philadelphia 76ers’ head coach, is another active bench leader being mentioned by league personnel as a potential Lakers candidate. Rivers’ tenure in Philadelphia has also come into question of late, spurred by team president Daryl Morey’s deadline acquisition of James Harden and the mounting speculation that followed about a potential reunification with Harden’s former Rockets head coach Mike D’Antoni.

Rivers has also been linked by several league sources as a potential replacement for the Jazz, in the event Snyder does depart Utah. Rivers was the head coach in Boston from 2004 to 2013 under current Jazz CEO Danny Ainge.

This comes after Rivers’ status in Philadelphia was questioned and it became rumored that Mike D’Antoni would replace him. D’Antoni was coach of Harden’s most successful years with the Houston Rockets and he has experience with Daryl Morey as well.

This will be interesting to keep an eye on as the offseason does approach in the NBA.
