The Philadelphia 76ers knew there would be a lot of things they would have to do differently in the 2021-22 season with the absence of Ben Simmons at the moment. As the 25-year old continues to get himself right, they have been able to have their way on the offensive end.

The Sixers have the best offensive rating in the league at the moment at 115.4 per basketball-reference despite Simmons’ absence and part of that has been the fact that they still have been able to play with pace and get to where they want to on the floor.

They had success in that area in Saturday’s win over the Atlanta Hawks and they were able to get Seth Curry open for some triples. He had 12 points in the third quarter alone as the Sixers got the ball up the floor and found him for open shots before the Hawks could find him in transition.

“Seth got two 3s just because we pushed the ball ahead,” said coach Doc Rivers. “The guy ran and guarded the wrong guy. That’s what that does. It puts so much pressure on your defense and that’s something you can do all year. That doesn’t stop when the playoffs start. You can keep doing that and that’s what we have to keep doing.”

Per NBA.com, the Sixers are eighth in the league in transition points per game at 23.2 to begin the season. That is a number that will benefit everybody, but especially for a 3-point sniper like Curry who can take advantage of an unorganized defense.

“When we’re able to get out in transition while the other team isn’t set defensively, get open looks, 3s, for us I think it increases our pace,” said Tobias Harris. “Guys are out running, feeling good. Getting a stop and going with it and converting. That just helps us out all around.”

With Simmons leading the way, the Sixers had a lot of success in that area of the game. Despite not having him out there, Philadelphia is still finding that success with young Tyrese Maxey.

“That’s a big part that Ben brought to us last year,” said Curry. “The transition game. We’ve got to figure out ways to rebound and push up the floor fast and get easy buckets. We did a good job of that tonight. Tyrese was good at that when he got the ball, pushing the ball up the floor, advance passing. So gotta continue to get better at that.”

The Sixers will host the Portland Trail Blazers on Monday to continue their homestand.
