The Philadelphia 76ers will go as far as Joel Embiid takes them. That is especially true now that the Sixers are probably done with Ben Simmons as they try to move the disgruntled star.

Therefore, the Sixers will need Embiid to be in the best shape of his life for them to have the type of success they plan on having.

Embiid took much better care of his body in the 2020-21 season and he played in 51 games on his way to an MVP runner-up season. He averaged 28.5 points and 10.6 rebounds while showing he can be relied upon on an every-night basis.

If it weren’t for a freak injury in Washington D.C. in March, which forced him to miss a handful of games, he probably would have won the MVP award.

“I was able to go through the whole season and then the only thing that happened was the freak injury. But other than that, I felt pretty good, so I just keep on going,” said Embiid on Thursday. “I guess it’s working. I just kept on going, but I’m not where I want to be. I’m still working my way back up, but by the first game, I should be good.”

Embiid detailed in the previous season that he had hired a nutritionist and he was understood he must take better care of his body for him to have the success he wants.

“I just kept doing whatever I did last year,” he explained. “Like I said at the beginning of last year, I kinda started focusing more on my body, whether it was the nutritionist and the chef, all the little stuff, and PT and all that stuff. Last year, I started probably two or three weeks before the season and it helped a lot and it was something that I see the results.”
