Steph asked MJ about infamous ‘not a Hall of Famer yet’ claim originally appeared on NBC Sports Bayarea
NBA legends rarely, if ever, forget when they have been slighted.
So, when Steph Curry sat down with Michael Jordan at the Ryder Cup at Whistling Straits, you might have been thinking about MJ’s infamous quote from 2019 when he said the Warriors star wasn’t a Hall of Famer yet on “Today” with Craig Melvin.
Well, Curry was and he admitted it was the first thing he asked Jordan about.
“That was the first question, and they just edited it out,” Curry joked with The Athletic’s David Aldridge and Marcus Thompson III on the “Hoops, Adjacent” podcast. “He said ‘first-ballot, Hall of Fame, no problem.’”
Glad to see His Airness has finally come around.
Curry enjoyed his time with Jordan, and learned some things from their conversations as Team USA was taking Team Europe to the woodshed.
“One, I’m not alone in being a psychopath about golf,” Curry said at Warriors Media Day. “I do know that. He might have me beat for sure. But just that competitive spirit never dies. The same killer instinct he had as a player and in business has translated into his presence around like a Ryder Cup team and some of the captains and players and stories that he can tell from being to the last 11 Ryder Cups.
“That spirit that made him who he is while playing basketball permeates everything in life. That’s such a cool concept. You have to find balance but it’s an encouraging kind of take on how he lives his life in that respect. Because he gives everything he does his all and he wants to win everything. It’s not just talk. It’s how he lives.”
Jordan might want to win everything, but he took an L over his 2019 comments on Curry’s Hall of Fame status. Even the GOAT loses every now and again.
