Steph gores Bulls with 36th game with nine-plus 3-pointers originally appeared on NBC Sports Bayarea

While Steph Curry closes in on Ray Allen’s all-time regular season 3-point record, the Warriors‘ star padded his massive lead in another 3-point stat Friday night at Chase Center.

In the Warriors’ 119-93 win over the Chicago Bulls, Curry connected for nine 3-pointers, the 36th time Curry has made at least that many in a game.

That number is staggering by itself, but it’s even more mind-blowing when you realize the next five guys on that list don’t have as many as Curry combined.

James Harden and Damian Lillard each have nine such games, while injured Warriors star Klay Thompson has seven. JR Smith had five during his NBA career, and the late Kobe Bryant connected for nine or more 3-pointers in four games. Those five players have combined to do it 34 times.

In the marquee matchup against the Bulls on Friday, Curry went 9-of-17 from deep and finished with 40 points in the win. Four of those triples came in a dazzling third quarter in which Curry scored 15 points.

The Bulls entered Friday’s game with a top-10 defensive rating, but Curry didn’t really seem to care. Alex Caruso was tasked with guarding Curry, but the reigning NBA scoring champ hit several tough shots in the face of the Bulls guard.

With his nine 3-pointers on Friday, Curry needs 78 more 3-pointers to pass Allen (2.973) for the most all-time in the regular season.

Curry is going to go down as the most prolific 3-point shooter in the history of the NBA, and no one will touch his record for games with at least nine 3-pointers or the all-time regular season record, once it is his.
