Golden State Warriors star Steph Curry is expected to miss approximately three weeks after sustaining a left shoulder injury in the Warriors’ 125-119 loss to Indiana on Wednesday, a person familiar with the situation told USA TODAY Sports.

The person requested anonymity because they were not authorized to publicly comment on the injury.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski was the first reported the timetable.

It appeared the injury happened with 2:13 left in the third quarter when Curry went to steal the ball from the PacersJalen Smith as Smith drove to the basket. Curry had his left hand on the basketball as Smith powered through, and Curry immediately winced and grabbed his left shoulder.

Curry checked out of the game with 2:04 remaining in the third quarter and did not return. He was in the middle of another great game – 38 points on 11-for-19 shooting from the field, 5-for-10 on 3-pointers and 11-for-11 on free throws along with seven rebounds, seven assists, two steals and one block.

Curry’s absence does not bode well for the Warriors. He was the consistent bright spot on an inconsistent team. He averages 30 points, 6.8 assists and 6.6 rebounds and shoots 50% from the field, 43.4% on 3s and 91.9% from the foul line. Those are MVP stats.

However, the Warriors are 14-15 and in 10th place in the Western Conference. Golden State is just 2-12 on the road with a four-game trip beginning Friday followed by an eight-game homestand that takes the Warriors through Jan. 10.

The defending champs lost key players (Gary Payton II, Otto Porter Jr.) from last year’s team, and the Warriors have struggled to mix other players into the rotation. Starter Andrew Wiggins has missed the past five games with a thigh injury and Klay Thompson generally sits the second game of a back-to-back.
