Tom Landry stood as the Dallas Cowboys’ head coach for 29 years and was the perfect embodiment of excellent leadership after years serving in the military. His son, Tom Landry Jr., sat down for an intimate conversation to explain why his father’s decision to join the army in 1943 was a firm shaper in the course of Cowboys history. “The line between life and death is the most paramount thing a man can experience,” said Landry Jr. He believed that his father’s time in the military contributed immensely to his two Super Bowl wins and the person Tom Landry came to be. Ray Hobbs, another WWII veteran, also grew emotional on the topic and stated, “the real heroes are all laying in those graves.”
