Eddie Olczyk added to Seattle Kraken broadcast team originally appeared on NBC Sports Chicago

The Seattle Kraken officially introduced Eddie Olczyk as the new color commentator for the Kraken’s broadcast.

“The Kraken have made an immediate impact since entering the league and I’m very excited to be joining the organization and getting to know their amazing fans,” Olczyk said in a statement. “I’m looking forward to bringing my experience, passion and love for the game of hockey to Seattle and to the ROOT SPORTS broadcasts.”

Olczyk left the Blackhawks back in July after serving 16 seasons as the team’s color commentator with NBC Sports Chicago. Olczyk was born and raised in Chicago and spent the first three seasons of his NHL career with the Blackhawks.

In the end, the Blackhawks made a contract offer to Olczyk, but the two couldn’t agree to terms. Olczyk’s contract with the Kraken is for five years, according to NBC Sports Chicago’s Charlie Roumeliotis, and he will remain as TNT’s lead NHL analyst, where he will call approximately 30 games this season.

Olczyk’s brother Ricky and son Eddie are already in the Kraken organization as assistant general manager and scout, respectively. Olczyk will probably be leaned on as a resource to the front office with his family already in the door.

“I’d like to thank Rocky and Danny Wirtz and the Blackhawks organization, as well as the fans, for all their incredible support over the years and for some unforgettable memories,” Olczyk said. “I’ve known and worked with John for years and have known JT since he was starting his hockey career and could not be more excited to be working alongside the two of them.”
