Lindy Ruff’s coaching staff took a blow this offseason, losing assistant coach Andrew Brunette, who took the Nashville Predators head coaching gig.

In Brunette’s place, the Devils are reportedly adding former NHL head coach Travis Green to the coaching staff, according to Elliotte Friedman.

Friedman notes that Green had other opportunities with the Calgary Flames and Toronto Maple Leafs on the table, but he opted to join New Jersey instead.

Green returns to the NHL after being dismissed as the Canucks head coach in December 2021. He spent five years with Vancouver and led them to the Western Conference Finals during the 2020 season.

Prior to that, he spent four seasons coaching the Utica Comets of the AHL, which is now an affiliate of the Devils.

On top of his coaching career, Green’s playing career spanned 14 years with stops in New York, Arizona, Toronto, Boston, and Anaheim.
