Another week in the English Premier League has past and the biggest surprise comes from league newcomers, Brentford. The Bees have successfully managed to secure points in both of their first two fixtures. With the success of Brentford comes the disappointment of both Crystal Palace and Arsenal. Neither team has won a game and Crystal Palace have yet to score a goal.

Each week I’ll break down the Premier League action from a betting perspective, digging through information pertinent to bettors and offering my take on particular matchups. This week we will look to take advantage of the poor form of Crystal Palace. Odds can be found via PointsBet Sportsbook:

West Ham vs Crystal Palace (Saturday, 10:00 a.m. ET):

Asian Handicap: West Ham -1 (-105) | Crystal Palace +1 (-120)

When betting soccer leagues as competitive as the English Premier League it’s important to focus on each team’s form. Entering this weekend’s fixture West Ham and Crystal Palace are going in opposite directions.

West Ham enter this weekend’s fixture sitting atop the table tied with Chelsea. West Ham have won both fixtures in their opening two matches. In a road fixture with Newcastle they were able to come from behind twice and win the contest in decisive fashion. In a match where they won 4-2, they out possessed and outshot their opponents.

In the match against Leicester City, they jumped an early lead and never looked back. Michail Antonio has looked stellar in both contests. He has racked up three goals and three assists. Antonio should keep up his strong start to the season against a poor Crystal Palace side.

After two games it looks as if new manager Patrick Vieira has his work cut out for him. This Palace team has shown little to no offensive continuity. In two matches they have yet to find the back of the next and between both matches they have an xG of less than one. In their fixture against Chelsea, they were only able to muster four total shots (0.28 xG). While they were a little better at home against Brentford, they were only able get off seven shots (0.53 xG).

It was clear that Vieira wanted to try and change the course of the season by sending out a strong XI in their midweek EFL Cup tie with Watford. An action that proved to be fruitless. Not only did he run his guys extra, they lost the match one-nil.

I like fading bad teams on the road. I especially like fading bad teams on the road, who started their key players in a midweek fixture. Crystal Palace are very unlikely to turn their poor form around anytime soon. West Ham and Michail Antonio have an extreme advantage over Crystal Palace. As such, take West Ham -1 (-105).
