Ronaldo’s record-setting goal came in the 88th minute of the contest. With Portugal facing a 1-0 deficit, Ronaldo found space in front of the net, and scored on a header to claim the record.
It was Ronaldo’s 110 international goal.
Moments later, he added to that record. In the 90th minute, Ronaldo scored another goal on a header to give Portugal the 2-1 win over Ireland.
Cristiano Ronaldo sets men’s international scoring record
With his first goal Wednesday, Ronaldo passed Ali Daei of Iran, who scored 109 career international goals during his career.
Ronaldo has a long way to go if he wants to set the all-time international goals record regardless of gender. Canada’s Christine Sinclair holds that record with 187 international goals.
